Von Reykjavik aus ging es mit einer kleinen Gruppe auf den &#8222;Golden Circle&#8220;, eine Sightseeing-Route durch den S\u00fcden Islands. Das erste Ziel war der \u00deingvellir-Nationalpark, in dem die amerikanische und die eurasische tektonische Platte j\u00e4hrlich um 2 &#8211; 3 cm auseinanderdriften. Die Landschaft ist gepr\u00e4gt durch gro\u00dfe Felsformationen und eine Seelandschaft. Dieser bricht ca. alle 10 Minuten aus und erreicht dabei eine H\u00f6he von 25 \u2013 35 Meter. Mit einer Breite von 229 Metern und einer H\u00f6he von 32 Metern z\u00e4hlt er zu den gr\u00f6\u00dften Wasserf\u00e4llen Islands. Der Wasserfall besteht aus zwei Stufen, von denen die erste 11 Meter betr\u00e4gt und die zweite 21 Meter. Nach dem Bad im 38\u00b0- 42\u00b0 Grad warmen Wasser konnte man die kleinen Geysire rund um die Lagune besichtigen. Diese verursachten einen permanenten Geruch nach Schwefel (wie faule Eier), den man auch beim Geysir Strokkur und beim warmen Duschen in Reykjavik begegnen konnte.
